Google Play Music shutting down!

Since posting this article it has been brought to my attention that Goole Play Music is still active. Please visit for confirmation from Google themselves and note the following important piece of information.

Your content and associated metadata, and your reports, will be deleted from the Artist Hub on August 31, 2019. Please download any content and reports you need before August 31, 2019.

Google Play Music is shutting down starting April 30th, 2019. The announcement was made in an email sent to Artists and their teams, with Google announcing that YouTube Music will eventually replace the closing service.

The email also contains a list of recommended YouTube Music partners. The partners listed in alphabetical order are:

  • AWAL

  • Believe

  • CD Baby

  • DistroKid

  • Stem

  • TuneCore

Artists can register a YouTube Music Artist profile. Here's the prerequisites that i'm currently aware of:

  • You own a YouTube channel.

  • You have 3 or more official music videos on YouTube. These have to be delivered from a music distribution partner (as listed above).

  • The music videos on your YouTube Channel are listed in the music category.

A key benefit of this is that YouTube will merge content from multiple channels into one verified artist channel. This way fans only need to follow you once to see all of your content.
